The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Sector Contracted by 10.97 percent in the 1st Quarter

The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Sector Contracted by 10.97 percent in the 1st Quarter

July 13, 2024 | Other Activities

The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector is the largest contributor to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in Lampung Province, accounting for Rp26,652.73 billion or 23.78 percent of the total GRDP in the first quarter of 2024.

The economic performance of the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector in the first quarter of 2024 contracted by 10.97 percent compared to the same quarter the previous year (year-on-year). One of the causes of this contraction is the shift in rice planting seasons due to climate change, particularly the El Niño phenomenon, resulting in altered harvest seasons in several areas.

The threat of climate change requires special attention, considering this sector's significant contribution to Lampung's GRDP and its heavy reliance on stable weather conditions. Therefore, there is a need for mitigation measures to address the negative impacts of climate change. By implementing appropriate mitigation steps, it is hoped that the agricultural sector in Lampung Province can become more resilient to weather challenges in the future.
