BPS-Statistics Lampung Province recorded that the Lampung Province economy grew 5.04 percent in Q3 2025, compared to the same period the previous year (year-on-year). This figure slowed slightly compared to the 5.09 percent growth achieved in Q2 2025. This figure was announced by the Head of BPS Lampung Province, Ahmadriswan Nasution, in a live broadcast of the Official Statistics News on Wednesday (November 5).
Ahmadriswan stated that Lampung Province's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in Q3 2025 at current prices (ADHB) reached IDR 135.56 trillion, while at constant prices (ADHK) it reached IDR 76.58 trillion.
Compared to the previous quarter (quarter-to-quarter/q-to-q), Lampung's economy recorded positive growth of 0.69 percent. Cumulatively, Lampung Province's economy grew by 5.19 percent (cumulative-to-cumulative/c-to-c) through the third quarter of 2025, representing a significant increase compared to the 4.33 percent growth recorded in the same period in 2024 (c-to-c).
In terms of production, economic growth of 5.04 percent (y-on-y) was driven by positive performance from most business sectors. The sector with the highest growth was Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries at 7.74 percent, followed by Accommodation and Food and Beverage Services at 7.35 percent, and Construction at 6.96 percent.
However, three business sectors experienced growth contractions: Electricity and Gas Supply (6.85 percent), Mining and Quarrying (1.71 percent), and Water Supply (0.13 percent).
The Head of the Lampung Province Statistics Agency (BPS), Ahmadriswan Nasution, explained that structurally, Lampung's economy is dominated by three sectors.
"Lampung's economy in the third quarter of 2025 was still dominated by the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector, with a share of 28.38 percent. This was followed by the Manufacturing Industry (19.44 percent), and Wholesale and Retail Trade (13.91 percent)," Ahmadriswan explained.
On a quarter-on-quarter (q-to-q) basis, the 0.69 percent growth was driven by the Health Services and Social Activities sector, which recorded the highest growth of 6.15 percent, followed by the Manufacturing Industry, which grew by 5.10 percent. Meanwhile, Several business sectors continued to experience contraction, with Transportation and Warehousing experiencing the deepest contraction at 5.50 percent.
Cumulatively (c-to-c), growth was driven by the Manufacturing Industry, which grew by 7.71 percent; followed by Accommodation and Food and Beverage Provision (7.57 percent); and Other Services (7.30 percent). Positive performance was also recorded in Transportation and Warehousing (6.77 percent) and Wholesale-Retail Trade and Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles (5.90 percent). However, several business sectors continued to experience contraction, namely Electricity and Gas Supply (1.88 percent) and Mining and Quarrying (0.73 percent).
Furthermore, on the expenditure side, economic growth of 5.04 percent (year-on-year) was driven by positive growth across all components. Gross Fixed Capital Formation (PMTB) recorded the highest growth at 6.05 percent, followed by Consumption Expenditure of Nonprofit Institutions Serving Households (PK-LNPRT) at 5.59 percent, and Exports of Goods and Services at 5.33 percent. Household Consumption Expenditure (PK-RT), which accounted for the largest share (60.49 percent), grew by 4.94 percent.
On a quarter-to-quarter (q-to-q) basis, the 0.69 percent growth was supported by Exports of Goods and Services (6.04 percent), PMTB (2.16 percent), and Government Consumption Expenditure (1.06 percent). Meanwhile, Household Consumption (PK-RT) contracted by 1.52 percent. Cumulatively (c-to-c), all expenditure components also grew positively, with Exports of Goods and Services recording the highest growth at 8.33 percent.
Spatially, the economy of Lampung Province contributes 10.13 percent to the total GRDP of Sumatra Island. Lampung's economic growth of 5.04 percent (year-on-year) places it as the third-highest-growing province on the island of Sumatra, after Riau Islands Province (7.48 percent) and South Sumatra Province (5.20 percent). Meanwhile, Sumatra's overall regional economic growth was recorded at 4.90 percent.
"The Lampung Province economy in the third quarter of 2025 continued to show solid performance, growing at 5.04 percent, even becoming the third-highest on the island of Sumatra. The largest source of growth on the production side was driven by the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sectors. Meanwhile, on the expenditure side, strong growth came from the Export of Goods and Services component," concluded Ahmadriswan Nasution.
BPS-Statistics Lampung Province has recorded a positive trend in the food crops sector. Based on the results of the Area Sample Framework (KSA) observations in September 2025, total rice production in Lampung Province in 2025 has the potential to reach 3.20 million tons of Dry Milled Grain (GKG), a significant increase of 408,880 tons, or 14.65 percent, compared to the 2024 realization of 2.79 million tons.
The Head of BPS Lampung Province, Ahmadriswan Nasution, announced this achievement in a press release on Wednesday (November 5). He explained that this increase in rice production is in line with the increase in the estimated harvested area.
Overall, the total harvested area for rice in Lampung Province in 2025 has the potential to reach 597,480 hectares. This figure represents an increase of 65,760 hectares, or 12.37 percent, compared to the 2024 harvested area of 531,720 hectares.
Periodically, the movement of rice harvested area in 2025 shows the following dynamics: Subround I (January–April 2025): Harvested area experienced a sharp increase of 90.67 thousand hectares compared to the same period the previous year. Subround II (May–August 2025): Harvested area decreased by 28.58 thousand hectares. Subround III (September–December 2025): Lampung Province has the potential to experience an increase in harvested area of 3.67 thousand hectares compared to 2024.
The largest increase in rice production also occurred at the beginning of the year. Rice production in Subround I (January–April 2025) recorded an increase of 509.51 thousand tons of unhusked rice compared to the same period the previous year.
Meanwhile, in Subround II (May–August 2025), production decreased by 99.41 thousand tons of unhusked rice. For the forecast for Subround III (September–December 2025), rice production has the potential to experience a slight decline of 1.22 thousand tons of unhulled rice compared to the same period in 2024.
If converted to rice for public consumption, total rice production in Lampung Province in 2025 has the potential to reach 1.84 million tons, an increase of 235.05 thousand tons, or 14.65 percent, from 1.60 million tons in 2024.
Ahmadriswan Nasution also explained that this rice production calculation is the result of integrating two data collection systems: harvested area data from the Rice Area Sample Framework Survey (KSA) and productivity data obtained through the Rice Tiling Survey.
In addition, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has adapted the updated 2025 Rice Area Sample Framework (KSA) data using the 2024 Rice Field Standard Area (LBS). The 2024 LBS, sourced from Decree of the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Number 446.1/SK-PG.03.03/V/2024, records the area of rice fields in Lampung Province at 337,284 hectares.
This figure represents a decrease of 24,415 hectares (approximately 6.75%) compared to the 2019 LBS, which was recorded at 361,699 hectares.
It should be noted that the total harvested area and rice production figures for 2025 are still preliminary. This figure includes the potential harvest area and production for the period October to December 2025 obtained based on the results of the KSA Padi observations in September 2025. Specifically for the calculation of paddy and rice production in the period September to December 2025, the figure uses the average productivity of Subround III in 2023–2024.
Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) Provinsi Lampung mencatat tren positif pada sektor tanaman pangan. Berdasarkan hasil Kerangka Sampel Area (KSA) amatan bulan September 2025, total produksi padi di Provinsi Lampung pada tahun 2025 berpotensi mencapai 3,20 juta ton Gabah Kering Giling (GKG), mengalami peningkatan signifikan sebesar 408,88 ribu ton atau 14,65 persen dibandingkan realisasi tahun 2024 yang tercatat sebesar 2,79 juta ton GKG.
Lampung's Open Unemployment Rate Increased Slightly to 4.21% in August 2025, with Labor Absorption Reaching 65,790,000 People
BPS-Statistics Lampung Province today released data on the State of the Lampung Province Employment for August 2025. The data shows an increase in the number of employed people and the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) on an annual basis.
In a press release in Bandar Lampung on Wednesday (November 5), the Head of BPS Lampung Province, Ahmadriswan Nasution, stated that the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) for Lampung Province in August 2025 was recorded at 4.21 percent. This figure is slightly higher than the 4.19 percent recorded in August 2024, although it still shows a slightly fluctuating trend over the past three years.
Overall, the working-age population in Lampung Province in August 2025 reached 7,192,540 people. Of this number, 5,066,550 people are in the Labor Force (AK), while 2,125,990 people are not in the Labor Force (BAK), such as attending school, taking care of the household, and other activities.
"The number of employed people reached 4,853,380. From August 2024 to August 2025, there was significant employment absorption, reaching 65,790 people," explained Ahmadriswan.
However, the increase in employment was accompanied by an increase in the number of unemployed. The number of unemployed in August 2025 was 213,170, an increase of 4,010 compared to August 2024. The unemployment rate itself increased from 207,240 in August 2023 to 209,160 in August 2024, and then rose again to 213,170 in August 2025.
The overall Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) increased from August 2023 to August 2025. The LFPR for men was higher than for women. Over the past year (August 2024–August 2025), there was an increase in the LFPR for men, while the LFPR for women decreased.
In terms of job quality, the majority of the employed population were Full-Time Workers (working at least 35 hours per week), totaling 2,833.98 people. Unfortunately, the proportion of full-time workers showed a downward trend from August 2023 to August 2025, even decreasing by around 62.72 thousand people compared to the previous year.
Conversely, the Underemployment Rate (working less than 35 hours per week and still looking for or willing to accept additional work) increased from August 2023 to August 2025. The number of underemployed was recorded at 548.05 thousand people. Meanwhile, Part-Time Workers were recorded at 1,471.35 thousand people, with a relatively stable level.
In August 2025, the largest employment status groups were Laborers/Employees/Staff and Self-Employed. Over the past year, there has been an increase in the number of workers in the Laborer/Employee/Staff category, while the number of Family/Unpaid Workers and Self-Employed has decreased.
This development aligns with the trend of an increasing proportion of formal workers and a decreasing proportion of informal workers. The increase in formal workers is primarily driven by the increasing number of Laborer/Employee/Staff.
In terms of business sector, the distribution of the working population is still dominated by the Agriculture, Trade, and Manufacturing sectors. The Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector is the largest contributor to labor absorption, with an increase of 55.97 thousand people. This is followed by the Manufacturing Industry sector with 29.42 thousand people, and the Education Services sector with 21.24 thousand people.
The majority of the working population has an education level below high school, with the proportion of elementary school graduates or below being the largest. Although still a minority, the proportion of the working population with higher education (Diploma IV, Bachelor's, Master's, Doctoral) continues to increase year after year.
Data analysis shows a correlation between education level and the unemployment rate. In August 2025, the lowest unemployment rate was found among elementary school graduates and below, at 2.16 percent.
Conversely, the highest unemployment rate was still among vocational high school graduates, with a TPT of 7.16 percent. However, the TPT trend for vocational high school graduates showed a decline from 2024 to 2025.
The Lampung Province Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released the Human Development Index (HDI) for Lampung Province in 2025, which recorded a score of 73.98. This figure increased by 0.85 points compared to the 2024 figure of 73.13, representing a percentage increase of 1.16 percent.
With a score above 70, Lampung Province's human development status has consistently been in the "High" category since 2020.
"The HDI achievement of 73.98 demonstrates that human development efforts in Lampung continue to move in a positive direction. Lampung's HDI has consistently been in the "High" category since 2020, reflecting a continuous improvement in quality of life," said the Head of the Lampung Province BPS, Ahmadriswan Nasution, in a press release on Wednesday (11/15).
Lampung's 2025 HDI increase of 1.16 percent reflects a positive acceleration in improving quality of life. This growth rate is higher than the average annual growth rate for the 2020–2024 period, which was 0.73 percent.
Ahmadriswan Nasution emphasized the importance of this growth figure, saying, "What we should underscore is the 2025 HDI growth rate, which reached 1.16 percent. This growth rate is higher than the annual average for the last five years, indicating accelerated human development in Lampung Province."
The increase in the 2025 HDI is driven by positive growth across all its constituent dimensions, including longevity and healthy living, knowledge, and a decent standard of living.
The achievement of a HDI of 73.98 in 2025 is supported by improvements in the constituent components, as detailed below:
"The most substantial increases were seen in the Average Years of Schooling component, which grew by 2.99 percent, and the Adjusted Real Per Capita Annual Expenditure, which grew by 3.78 percent. This demonstrates that the community's knowledge and decent living standards are improving and are the main drivers of Lampung's current HDI increase," added Ahmadriswan.
Spatially, of the 15 regencies/cities in Lampung Province, there was no change in their human development (HDI) status in 2025. Most regions, namely 12 regencies, managed to maintain their High HDI status. In fact, two cities achieved Very High status. Meanwhile, one regency remains at Medium status.
Next, we look at the Human Development Index (HDI) growth by Regency/City in 2025. In 2025, the highest HDI growth was achieved by South Lampung Regency at 1.32%, while the lowest growth was recorded in West Tulang Bawang Regency at 0.81%.
The achievement of a HDI of 73.98 with a growth rate of 1.16 percent demonstrates the success of the human development program in Lampung in maintaining the momentum of improving the quality of life of the community, even exceeding the average growth rate over the past five years. Equitable improvements across all dimensions of the HDI, particularly the RLS and Adjusted Real Expenditure per Capita per Year indicators, are crucial for more inclusive and sustainable regional development.
