Government policy in encouraging housing growth and expanding access to residential ownership for the community has been carried out through the provision of financing facilities, tax incentives, and accelerating housing development.
It is hoped that all of these policies will reduce the housing backlog figure, which means the large gap between the number of houses built and the number of houses needed by the community.
The March 2023 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) produced one indicator that measures housing needs, namely the percentage of households that occupy their own residential buildings and those that do not occupy their own residential buildings but have houses elsewhere.
In 2023, 92.40 percent of households in Lampung Province occupy their own residential buildings and the remaining 2.45 percent occupy residential buildings on contract/rental basis, 4.96 percent rent-free, and 0.18 percent occupy official/other residences.
