BPS-Statistics Lampung Province Inaugurates Statistical Corners at IIB Darmajaya and ITERA

BPS-Statistics Lampung Province inaugurated 2 Statistical Corners at IIB Darmajaya Campus and the Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) within a day.

"The presence of these Statistical Corners expands public access to broaden the scope for statistical literacy within the University environment," explained the Director of Statistical Dissemination at BPS-Statistics, Dwi Retno Wilujeng Wahyu Utami, S.Si., M.Si.

Once again, she conveyed that the inaugurated statistical corners at IIB Darmajaya and ITERA signify that nationally, Indonesia currently has 123 statistical corners spread among 38 provinces," continued Dwi Retno.

The inauguration took place at two universities in Lampung Province, namely the Institute of Informatics and Business Darmajaya (IIB Darmajaya) and the Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) on Wednesday, (5/6/24). Starting with the inauguration of the Statistical Corner at the IIB Darmajaya campus, followed by the Inauguration of the Statistical Corner and General Stadium at the ITERA Campus.

This strategic effort is a manifestation of the commitment and collaboration between BPS-Statistics Lampung Province and universities to enhance statistical literacy among the community, especially students and academics. The Statistical Corners serve as centers for information and statistical learning that are easily accessible and utilized by various parties.

"Through the Statistical Corners, we aim to produce competent statistical agents within campuses. The goal is to enhance literacy, awareness, and active participation of students/lecturers and the public in general in statistical activities," said the Head of BPS-Statistics Lampung Province, Atas Parlindungan Lubis, in his speech.

Furthermore, the presence of BPS-Statistics in universities should not be perceived as a burden for universities to solely serve BPS-Statistics' interests, but rather, conversely, BPS-Statistics collaborates with universities to enhance statistical literacy on campuses in the context of the national statistical system. Strengthening statistical literacy through academics on campuses is expected to act as a booster, so that an understanding of the importance of statistics flows to the community in its environment, concluded Atas.

The inauguration of the Statistical Corner at IIB Darmajaya began with remarks from Rector Darmajaya RZ Abdul Aziz, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., expressing heartfelt gratitude on this special day, coinciding with the 27th Campus Anniversary, that we officially have a Statistical Corner, may the Statistical Corner be beneficial. It can assist for the needs of academic communities for research and service by utilizing statistical data generated by BPS-Statistics, Azis hoped.

The attendees at IIB Darmajaya included Vice Rectors, Deans, Program Chairpersons, as well as IIB Darmajaya students who witnessed the inauguration at the Statistical Corner. Initially planned to deliver material at the general stadium addressing the topic "Statistics in the Digital Era: Turning Challenges into Opportunities." Unable to be executed due to technical disturbances with the PLN electricity outage, it did not diminish the significance of the material as it was still conveyed eloquently and wisely, listening to explanations on how the synergy of statistics and digitization supports Indonesia's sovereignty, explained directly by the Director of Statistical Dissemination at BPS-Statistics, Dwi Retno Wilujeng Wahyu Utami, S.Si., M.Si., Successfully captivating the participants to further understand how the challenges of Technological Disruption, Data Revolution, Big Data can lead to the development of statistical methodologies, algorithms, and statistical tools based on big data and data science, clarified Dwi Retno.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon, the inauguration of the Statistical Corner continued at ITERA, with the theme of the General Stadium: "The Urgency of Statistical Data in the Advancement of Superior Human Resources." attended by the Vice Rector for Finance and General Affairs ITERA, Dr. Ir. Rahayu Sukistyori M, Head of the General and Academic Bureau ITERA drh. Sri Sulistiawati, M.M., Dean of the Faculty of Science: Dr. Ikah Ning Prasetiowati Permanasari, S.Si., M.Si., in this case represented by the Vice Dean for Finance and General Affairs apt. Dirga, S.Farm., M.Sc, program chairs in the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Infrastructure and Regional Technology along with ITERA students. In addition, the Head of BPS Bandar Lampung City, Ir. Akhmad Nasrudin, accompanied the inauguration of the Statistical Corners at IIB Darmajaya and ITERA.

The existence of these Statistical Corners is expected to bring benefits to the community, especially students and academics, in understanding the importance of statistics in daily life. Visitors to the Statistical Corners can access various accurate and up-to-date statistical data and publications, participate in training and workshops to enhance data analysis skills, and consult with statistical experts to gain a deeper understanding of various statistical issues.

BPS-Statistics Lampung Province is committed to continuing its collaboration with various parties, including universities, local governments, and community organizations, to establish more Statistical Corners throughout the Lampung region. This is done to realize the accessibility of statistical information and learning that is evenly distributed and easily accessible by all Lampung communities.

It is hoped that with the establishment of Statistical Corners at IIB Darmajaya and ITERA, which were previously available at UNILA, statistical literacy in Lampung Province can continue to improve and statistics can be optimally utilized for various purposes, such as decision-making, research, and the development of scientific knowledge within the university environment.
