IMD provides many benefits, both short and long term. Direct skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby helps regulate the newborn's body temperature.

Carrying out IMD within one hour after birth is the beginning of exclusive breastfeeding in the future.

Susenas data for March 2023 shows that around 68 out of 100 ever married women aged 15-49 years who gave birth to live-born children in the last two years, the last live-born child was placed on the mother's chest with direct skin contact less than 1 hour after birth.
Meanwhile, there are still 11.86 percent of ever-married women aged 15-49 years who gave birth to live-born children in the last two years. The last live-born child was not placed on the mother's chest with direct skin contact after birth.
