Lampung Inflation in January 2024: 3.28% (yoy), Deflation 0.19% (mtm)

BPS-Statistics of Lampung Province announced year-on-year (yoy) inflation for a combination of four regencies/cities in Lampung Province in January 2024 at 3.28%. Meanwhile, month-to-month (mtm) inflation in January 2024 recorded deflation of -0.19%. Similar deflation also occurred in year-to-date (ytd) inflation with -0.19%.

Base Year Change and Expansion of Area Coverage

Head of BPS-Statistics of Lampung Province, Atas Parlindungan Lubis, in an official release held online on Thursday (1/2/2024), explained that the calculation of inflation figures this time uses a new base year based on the results of the Cost of Living Survey (SBH) in 2022, so that starting February 2024 BPS uses the base year 2022 = 100.

"Previously, BPS-Statistics of Lampung Province measured inflation from a combination of two cities, namely Bandar Lampung and Metro, with Base Year 2018=100. Starting earlier this year, we added two new inflation survey areas, namely East Lampung Regency and Mesuji Regency," Atas said.

yoy Inflation and its Causes

In January 2024, there was inflation (yoy) in Lampung Province of 3.28% with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.55. The highest inflation occurred in East Lampung Regency by 5.39% with a CPI of 109.05 and the lowest occurred in Metro City by 1.99% with a CPI of 104.52.

Inflation (yoy) occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most of the indexes (inflation) of expenditure groups, with the food, beverage and tobacco group experiencing the highest inflation, which was 7.49%.

Deflation (mtm) and (ytd) and its Causes

Meanwhile, the inflation rate (mtm) and (ytd) of Lampung Province in January 2024 experienced a decrease in the index (deflation) of 0.19% each.

Deflation (mtm) in January 2024 was caused by the food, beverage and tobacco expenditure group, with a deflationary share of -0.21%.

The main commodities contributing to deflation in this group include: Red chili (-0.136%), Cayenne pepper (-0.086%), Broiler chicken meat (-0.064%), Broiler chicken eggs (-0.026%), Mackerel

(-0.023%).
